Quille
Privacy Policy
Effective July 24, 2026
Quille exists to hold your family’s most personal possession: its stories. This policy says exactly what we collect, where it goes, and what we will never do with it. It is written to be read.
1. What we collect
What you give us:
- Account details: your email and a password (stored securely — never in a form anyone could read, including us).
- Intake details: the storyteller’s name, your relationship, and the context you share to help the conversation.
- The conversations themselves: audio recordings of your sessions and their transcripts. This is the heart of the service and the most sensitive thing we hold.
- If you purchase: your shipping name and address (for the printed book). Payment details go directly to Stripe — we never see or store card numbers.
- Emails you send us.
What we collect automatically: basic information about how the app is used — which pages you visit, how far you get — plus technical logs that help us catch and fix problems before they can interrupt your conversation. Usage information flows through PostHog (listed below).
What we deliberately do not collect: we do not run third-party advertising trackers, we do not buy data about you, and we do not collect anything from the storyteller’s device — the storyteller never needs to touch the app.
2. What your recordings are used for — and not used for
Your recordings and transcripts are processed for exactly one purpose: providing Quille to your family — live guidance during the conversation, transcription, writing your chapters and book, and printing it.
We will never:
- use your family’s stories or voices to train AI models without your explicit opt-in consent;
- sell your data, ever;
- show your stories to anyone outside the processing described below.
Your stories belong to your family. We hold a limited, revocable license to process them, only for delivery of the service (see the Terms, Section 8).
3. Who processes your data for us
We don’t build everything ourselves. Here is every company that touches any part of your family’s information, and exactly what we ask them to do with it — each under data-processing terms, each receiving only what its job requires:
| Provider | Job | What it receives |
|---|---|---|
| AssemblyAI | Speech-to-text | Session audio |
| Anthropic | Writing assistance (the AI biographer) | Transcripts and session context, under our data-processing agreement |
| Cloudflare R2 | Storage of completed recordings | Audio files |
| Fly.io | Keeps the app running | Technical data needed to run the service |
| Stripe | Payments | Purchase and billing details |
| Lulu | Printing and shipping the hardcover | The book file and your shipping address |
| PostHog | Product analytics | Usage events |
| Google Workspace | Correspondence with you |
4. Consent to record
Before a storyteller’s first session, the app asks for the storyteller’s agreement to be recorded, out loud and on the record. We designed Quille so the person being recorded always knows and always agrees. Recording-consent law varies by state; the interviewer confirms consent as a condition of using Quille.
5. Your rights
Wherever you live, we honor these:
- Export: download your family’s recordings and transcripts at any time.
- Deletion: ask and we delete your account and your family’s stories. We confirm completion within 30 days.
- Access and correction: ask what we hold about you; correct what’s wrong. Quille’s own name-check and refinement steps exist so your family controls its text.
- California residents: the rights above cover CCPA’s requirements; we do not sell or share personal information as CCPA defines those terms.
To exercise any of these: support@quille.co.
6. Children
Quille is for adults — purchasers must be 18+. Family stories naturally mention children; those mentions live inside your family’s private stories and are not used for anything beyond producing your book. Children do not use Quille themselves.
7. How long we keep things
- Your recordings and transcripts: for as long as your family keeps them with us. This is your archive — deliberately not auto-deleted.
- If you close your account: your recordings and transcripts remain exportable for 90 days, then are deleted.
- Operational logs and analytics: 12 months. Payment records: as financial regulations require.
8. Security
Your recordings are encrypted while they travel to us and locked away once they arrive; only the systems that need them can reach them. Passwords are never stored in readable form, and payment details never touch our servers. No system is perfect — if a breach ever affects your data, we will tell you promptly and plainly.
9. Where data lives
Our systems run in the United States. The service is offered to U.S. customers at this time.
10. Changes
If this policy changes in a way that matters, we email you before it takes effect. We will never change what Section 2 promises about your stories without your explicit consent.
